Knob & tube rewiring

Knob & tube rewiring

NJ Lic. #14695 · FL EC13014803

Older-home rewiring with knob-and-tube de-energized and bypassed, done safely and to code, the fix most insurers now require.

Knob-and-tube wiring was standard before about 1950, but it was never designed for today's loads, and many insurers now require it de-energized and bypassed before they will cover a home. Elite Electric rewires older homes and de-energizes and bypasses knob-and-tube safely, making getting insurance easier and more affordable!

You may have knob-and-tube if

  • Your home was built before roughly 1950
  • Your insurer is asking for wiring documentation
  • You see ceramic knobs or cloth-wrapped wire in the attic or basement
  • Two-prong outlets and no ground throughout

Common questions

Questions

Why do insurers care about knob-and-tube?

Knob-and-tube can be a fire risk when overloaded or altered by past owners, so many insurers require it de-energized and bypassed before they will write or renew a policy.

Do you have to open all my walls?

We plan the rewire to limit wall openings wherever possible, using existing routes and access points. We will walk you through what a given home needs before we start. At Elite Electric we pride ourselves on doing everything we can to maintain the cosmetic integrity of your home, office, manufacturing facility or warehouse. We go the extra mile to eliminate, or at the very least minimize, the need for patch work. You would be amazed, with a little effort, at the amount of patch work that can be avoided.
