Smoke and Carbon Monoxide (CO) Systems

Having a Smoke Detection System in your home dramatically increases the chances of surviving a fire!

Statistics point to a fifty percent reduction in fire fatalities since the introduction of smoke alarms into the home. Although 90% of all residences have smoke alarms today, no smoke alarms were present in 42% of residential structure fires where fatalities occurred. Smoke alarms were present in 58% of fatal residential structure fires, but only operational in 37% of those fatal fires. That means that most often where smoke alarms are present in a fatal fire, the smoke alarm is nonfunctional due to dead or missing batteries.

Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, including the basement. Many fatal fires begin late at night or in the early morning. For extra safety, install smoke alarms both inside and outside sleeping areas. Since smoke and many deadly gases rise, installing your smoke alarms at the proper level will provide you with the earliest warning possible. Always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.

Although battery operated smoke detectors are far better than no smoke detectors at all, they don't offer the same protection as "Hard Wired" systems with battery backup!

Battery Smoke Detectors sound off when smoke is detected, at the location the smoke is detected.

A hard wired system is designed to sound off every detector connected to the system throughout the home, regardless where the smoke was detected. If a fire starts in the basement at night while you are sleeping, the hard wired system sounds off at every detector location giving you a MUCH better chance of getting you and your loved ones out of harms way.

The same holds true for Carbon Monoxide Detectors (CO Detectors)!

CO detectors can be integrated into a smoke detection system to give added protection to you and your family! By using combination Smoke/CO units you can get this added peace of mind in a single detection unit.

Carbon Monoxide (CO)

Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless and toxic gas. Because it is impossible to see, taste or smell the toxic fumes, CO can kill you before you are aware it is in your home. At lower levels of exposure, CO causes mild effects that are often mistaken for the flu. These symptoms include headaches, dizziness, disorientation, nausea and fatigue. The effects of CO exposure can vary greatly from person to person depending on age, overall health and the concentration and length of exposure.
